St Paul on the Road to Damascus?

I’m not an overtly religious person, though like many people I have some spiritual beliefs. And I’m certainly not the kind of person that uses religious metaphors that often, but I’ll make an exception in this case. You see I did have a kind of epiphany 6 months ago, albeit not quite on the scale of St.Paul on the road to Damascus!

For me the epiphany was all about the potential to make a really good living through generating multiple ‘passive income’ sources, especially through internet marketing. It was brought about by reading George Marshall’s  book ‘Get Out While You Can- Escape the Rat Race’, a fabulous read that I would wholeheartedly recommend to everyone.

In this book, which is really a manifesto for a change in thinking about our working lives, George argues for a totally new approach to work. According to George, rather than working our butts off earning a pre-determined amount of money ‘per hour’, why not work towards creating online ‘assets’ that generate us money forever more?? You see, we only have a finite amount of time in which to earn money through a traditional job. But if we were to create sites that generated commissions via affiliate products then these sites would be able to earn us money 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! And that means you’ll be earning money in your sleep, a prospect I really liked the sound of!

I won’t lie to you. It’s not easy making money this way. It takes time, effort and focus. But it’s not difficult either. I’m not making mega bucks at the moment. Maybe ten to fifteen pounds a week. But as I build more affiliate sites, and as those sites attract more traffic through SEO work and social networking I can see the HUGE potential of it as a way of making money. And what I really love is this- I can spend a week’s worth of time building a new affiliate site and then SEO-ing it, and then it will continue to earn me money way into the future! And that’s the beauty of this system. The income I earn in this way will also supplement the money I make from my main line of work- wedding photography.

In future posts I will spend a bit more time explaining my approach towards generating ideas for new sites, how to I do keyword research, and also how to build a site (and no, you don’t have to know a thing about HTML and programming!).
